Music is life. At least my life and it is never far from my mind,my ears or my throat. This year music has been dominated by Dance infused pop songs often with tinges of R&B and Rap ( Enrique Inglesias/Pitbull or Tao Cruz/Ludacris). Collaborations between artists of different genres has become common place and often they result in little known artists becoming huge break out stars ( Bruno Mars,BOB). It has been a poppy dance in your seat type year and I have enjoyed every minute of it. But there have also been songs that touched my heart and made me think or showed me the way to someone new and exciting. Both types of songs are important as one needs to have different points of view for all the varying moods and moments of their life. Here are my top twenty singles of the year.
* If you are reading this in the Notes section on Facebook please hit view original post at bottom of page that will bring you here to my actual blog where you can view the videos for the songs if you would like*
The Only Exception : Paramore. As someone who understands the emotionally distant this song rang true from the very first listen. I've done a lot of heavy thinking while this song played. It will remain in rotation for many years to come.
Rolling in the Deep : Adele. I have been waiting a really long time for Adele to put out new music. She did not disappoint me with this song about lovers who almost had it all but ended up with nothing. Adele's musical voice speaks volumes to anyone out there who has love and lost but especially to women who need someone to voice what they are feeling when things go horrible wrong. There is no one better at putting the pain of what might have been into song than Adele. I am grateful every day for her talent.
Grenade : Bruno Mars. One of the breakout stars of 2010 Bruno Mars busted out several number one songs including collaborations with B.O.B and Travie Mccoy and the first panty dropping song from his solo album Just the way you are but it was his second single Grenade that blew things up for me. The song of unrequited love and what one will do even when they know the person doesn't feel the same. This song hit me like a ton of bricks in a chilling way. I am look forward to seeing what else Mr Mars has up his very talented sleeve. Only thing my friend keep that nose clean... literally!!!
Please Don't go : Mike Posner. Oh how many fun filled status updates Cooler than me gave me but it is this little diddy that makes me pop and lock my way around the living room. Mr. Posner made my head bob quite a bit this year.
Stop for a Minute : Keane. The group that writes the soundtrack to my life. I listen to them and find out things about myself that I didn't know that I didn't want to know and that I need desperately to know. Everyone who doesn't know about this group should stop for a minute and find out about them. They move me.
Animal : Neon Trees It was a live version of this song I saw on MTV Hits that first caught my eye and mesmerized me every time it came on. I had a tendency to blast my tv as loud as it would go and I am sure my neighbors appreciated that. I was very excited when the song started getting play on the radio. Oh and a female drummer is always kick ass!!
Dog Days are Over : Florence and the Machine. My favorite discovery of 2010. She brought Cosmic love to TVD and Heavy in your Arms to The Eclipse soundtrack but it was this song and it's video that sold me. It was everywhere as the soundtrack to movie trailers and tv shows and I never turned it once when it came on. In fact I went to see the movie and watch the show because Florence made me!!
King of Anything : Sara Bareilles A F*ck off you intrusive POS song encased in a upbeat pop song. It holds one of the most poignant verses I've heard in a long time. One that hits me hard every time I hear it making my chest tightened and my eyes water. It does it because for me it is the truth and I thank Sara for singing of it.
Little Lion Man : Mumford and Sons. Thank you VH1 for showing us the way to new artists!! Sitting in my living room on a Saturday morning watching the top 20 countdown and BAM!! Here comes something new to my ears and they gave me a cuss word to boot!!
Ghost : Fefe Dobson. A girl gets cheated on a girl gets revenge by haunting his ass rocking diddy. The perfect song to have on repeat when your going through the anger stage of a break up.
Touch : Natasha Bedingfield. Everything happens for a reason and fate will intervene. A perfect little pop/dance toe tapper
Misery : Maroon Five. Hot video. Hot man in video. Adam Levine's voice whispers sex to me with every line. Pop Viagra that keeps going and going and going and *sigh*
Just haven't meet you yet : Michael Buble. This song makes me happy and every time I hear it I can not help but smile. I have sung my heart out to this tune more than any other this year. It makes you hopeful and lightens even the darkest of moods. I love me a crooner and Michael is my current favorite!
Crossfire : Brandon Flowers. His first solo effort does not disappoint. I love anything and everything Brandon does. He is an exceptionally gifted man. The Killers are one of those bands who's albums I listen to from beginning to end and love every song.
F*ck You : Cee Lo. A throwback song with a very simple very in your face message. When I heard he was putting out a single with that title I laughed out loud. The song of course is so much more than it's title but once again I get a cuss word and that always makes me smile. It also gave me a new pop culture phrase. Instead of saying F*ck you these days I say here's a Cee Lo salute. Everyone knows what you mean and no one can say you cursed at them.
Only girl in the world : Rihanna. This infectious little bit of girl power goes a long way towards making up for Umbrella. I have never been a big fan but I find that this song a most played track on my Ipod. One of my guilty pleasure songs of the year.
Radioactive : Kings of Leon. The guitar riff plays over and over in my head. It is an addiction that I don't want to be rid of... Oops there it is RIGHT now.....
Country Strong : Gwyneth Paltrow. To many Gwyneth's singing came as a surprise which surprised me as she has sung in her movies before. I have not tuned it to country music for some time but I found myself watching the entire CMA's just to see Gwen sing the title track from her new movie. She was awesome and as a strong willed pig headed country girl the lyrics and their meaning hits close to home.
Raise your Glass : Pink. In a year where the horrors of bullying have come to the fore front of the American conscious this song serves as a anthem for anyone who has ever felt like they were on the outside looking in.
Dancing on my own : Robyn. Who hasn't watched someone they cared about move on without them? This dance trance tune lets you know that you have to keep moving forward and that it is okay to do that all by yourself.
